I have an old laptop I wanted to use for my home lab. It is an old Lenovo ideapad, I went through some rough times. The screen was replaced once also it stopped being used because I it from quite high and the windows got corrupted. It had and hdd so no wonder. I wanted to replaced the disk as it was failing. I also clean the fan drop all the dust. However it won’t boot. Only thing I did to it is remove the disk and put a new one in. And second thing is unscrewed the fan, remove the dust and put it back. I doesn’t turn on. I tried looking at all the connectors but they seem fine. When I was cleaning the fan I unconnected on of the wireless antenna cables but I managed to plug it back in. I did not do other things. Everything seems connected. Only thing I could think about is that battery looks big gooey but it doesn’t boot with or without adapter. And the battery worked fine before the change.
Do you have any idea what could have went wrong?
If it turns on and all the LEDs are lit but there’s no POST, it could be a BIOS brick, happened to me twice
Nope the LED does not turn on
Try to disconnect the battery, press the power button a few times without the power cable to discharge everything, then plug the power cable and press the power button
Can you remove battery and try with power adapter?
I wil try this
Not sure of your model. Have a look at the power button. If it’s not part of the keyboard, check how it connects to the mainboard. It might be a small flex cable that slides under or into a socket on the board, and might have come out.
It is part of the keyboard
Laptops are finicky, you probably disconnected a tiny tiny 2mm long cable without noticing.
You have tried to boot with power plugged in right?
Yes I have
Time to disassemble then I guess!
But first, I’d try with the broken disk, or no disk at all just to be sure it’s not the new drive that’s causing problems.
Also, if you can find a YouTube disassembly video for your laptop, check that out.
Also, I arrange all the nuts, bolts, things I disassemble in order, and I take a lot of photos, you’ll thank yourself later when you forgot what that plastic thing is and how it should fit.
Good luck!
