  • I don’t want to pile on too hard, because hopefully you’ve internalized some of the other criticisms in the comments, but this is actually a great example of why “AI” art makes so many people so angry.

On its face, this is a nice-ish comic strip with a joke that might get a smirk or chuckle in response. The moment you look at the image critically, that all falls apart. And don’t you want people to look at your art critically? Don’t you want people to zoom in and enjoy every part of what you created? Thing is, this isn’t your art. You didn’t create it. You wrote some sentences, and then an algorithm (without permission) used the real, painstakingly created artwork of artists from all over the world and throughout history, to spit out some pixels that look like this. You didn’t pick up a pencil or stylus, you didn’t ink the lines and labor over the facial expression or color pallets. You didn’t build on a lifetime of artistic experience to create something new in a style that you’ve been developing for yourself. And then you signed it to make it seem like you had actually done all that. That may seem okay to you, but it’s deeply insulting to lots of people.

I’m a shitty visual artist. I couldn’t draw to save my life. And that’s totally okay, not everyone is Van Gogh. I find other outlets for my artistic impulses.

  • This is exactly it. Unless we get really specific, this shit is more of the same middling platitudes, and different audiences will only hear what they want to hear. Seriously disappointing, and not at all helpful.

Ex-politicians like Obama (but not just him) need to shut the hell up unless they have PRACTICAL ideas that we can use. Someone like Obama should understand that his words have gravitas (love your username btw, fellow Banks fan I presume?), but his rhetoric goes straight in the garbage unless it’s backed by actionable ideas.

  • Yes, exactly. People seem to be purposefully ignoring his answers. He has amazing message discipline and always gives, imo, the perfect response which balances empathy, morality, and political expediency. He’s an incredibly talented political who has weathered the manufactured pushback, overt racism (fuck you Gillibrand), and criticisms better than anyone I can think of.

Also, I’m a Jew (not that it matters), but I think when all the ranked choice numbers are finally tallied he will have won the majority of NY Jews in the primary.

  • Frankly, the thing that scares me the most is that you can hear the soldiers in the audience loudly booing at residents of LA on behalf of Trump, when prompted by Trump. That’s disgusting behavior, and should get them all reprimanded or discharged.

While I don’t necessarily have the default unchallenged respect/reverence for the military that most people do, at the very least I expect them to act professionally and respectfully in their own country (since we know that’s often way too much to ask when they’re sent abroad). Fuck any solider who openly acts on their political views, and fuck every soldier that doesn’t refuse an illegal order. You volunteered to do this, so you better do it right.

  • As an American Jew who has spent significant time in Israel and the occupied territories in Palestine, this piece is awesome and accurately reflects my experiences there.

Anyone who thinks Israel operates in good faith needs to read this, to quickly have that misconception torn to shreds. Many American Jews have gone through this kind of transformation, and it makes perfect sense when you see what actually happens to the normal human beings living there—that happen to be Palestinian—on a daily basis.

And his descriptions of interacting and living with Palestinians (and how Israelis only ever refer to all Palestinians as Arabs), match my experiences to the tee.
