Any time a politician switches parties my first instinct is their district flipped, and it’s just opportunism. It’s not always true, but you could make a lot of money betting on it.

Maybe. This country has gone through some dark times before. I have to operate on the belief that things will get better because the alternative… the alternative obviates the need to worry about that money in any event. Because I’m too old to go anywhere else and I will not suffer under the boot of a domestic enemy.

I mean I guess every deficit reduction implicitly comes out of taxpayers wallets, but this is about consumers paying more for the same stuff while at the same time the government is massively reducing services which also will cost us more. We are being absolutely fleeced.

We are going to have much lower quality of life for a given income. And then the next Republican administration is just going to run up the deficit further because that’s all they do.

That’s why, when other administrations are upset with trade, they work that shit out in back rooms out of sight of the public. Trump not only holds a losing hand, but he’s playing with his cards on the table face-up in a televised game. Because real diplomacy is the fucking opposite of showmanship.

But also, I think China knows well the adage of Napoleon: “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.” Trump is fucking himself left and right and China is just sitting back, going, “Let’s give him rope and see where this goes.”

They are playing the long game, and they know in a few years, they are likely to be negotiating with someone very different, and they will be doing so from a position of much greater strength. So they can afford to ignore Trump.

Having been a contractor, we aren’t always cheaper, but I guess that depends on the industry. I know I was making more than my civilian bosses in IT, but the janitorial service was also contracted out, and I saw a great guy (incidentally, possibly not a legal worker but it’s not my business) lose his job because another contractor was cheaper. I wasn’t so easy to replace. Having sat in on several interviews, I can attest to that.

I guess that raises the question of whether contractors will be able to remain cheaper without “illegal” labor.

So we will continue to have everything done by contractors then. Cool.

It’s so fucking embarrassing to watch him, and I hated him before. It sets my nerves on fire like the visual equivalent to nails on a chalkboard. Keep posting it. For every right-winger who sees it and cheers, there have to be four more who feel deeply ashamed to cast their lot with him.

Then let’s say more specifically, religions promoted and encouraged by the rich and powerful. The ones who whip the mob into a frenzy and then are like, “rah rah! You go guys! I’ll be right behind you, I just have to wash my grass first. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Yeah, don’t wait up for me.”

Religion has always been a way to convince the poor to die for the rich. “Your rewards will come in the next life. Please kill yourself working.”

Even Buddhism has the philosophy of suffering in this life will be repaid in the next. Fuck all that shit. There’s no fucking reward, just death. Make sure you don’t die carrying someone else’s debt.
