I’m noticing a certain level affluence in the left image. I wonder if people from poor families in that time period would look as fondly at a time before radios.

These people are all willing to play shows in the US, why wouldn’t you expect them to play in Saudi Arabia? Sounds like living in denial about our own country. Like the concept of blood diamonds; money from software made in the US has funded conflict all over the globe but no one called it blood software. We used to export soybeans and used the money to bomb foreigners and no one called em blood soybeans.
Moral failings are always some other countries problem, we’re the shining city on the hill remember? /s
The buddha says that the more you have the more you want
Well, it is a thing but it’s also an integral part of being human rather than a “culture” that’s somehow new. The difference is that it’s a power wielded by the people now rather than tastemakers putting people on a blacklist.
Bill Burr is different in many ways but the clip of him screaming “fagot” at the crowd was a clue that he’s no ethical paragon
Comedians have been making fun of politics my whole life. Not always what I would call taking a side but at the least calling out whatever foolishness was on the news cycle.
It’s always been possible but now it’s getting increasingly untenable.
Doing something about all the shootings means economic, political, and social reform and that would inconvenience Billionaires. So instead Democrats will blame guns and Republicans will try to ignore the problem completely because neither will admit that the exploitive economic system they champion reaching it’s logical conclusion is to blame.
The Center pursues stricter gun control. The Left isn’t opposed to gun control in theory but they encourage people to buy assault rifles and share 'Under No Pretext" memes.
(“Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary” ― Karl Marx)
When the US constitution was written, it was assumed they didn’t have to spell out exactly how the judiciary would work because the Anglo-Saxon legal tradition was over a millennia old without getting written down (predating statute law) but apparently that assumption was wrong.
The tipping point was when smart phones with inexpensive internet access became common. Before that, the least intellectually curious among us rarely had computers or internet.
Reddit is and has been going downhill fast. There were benefits to it being embraced by the masses but also huge downsides. The admins made decisions that negatively affected the experience of using Reddit (like refusing to let subs disable voting even when it made alot of sense) because they wanted to maximize engagement by any means necessary. But taking reddit public was the final nail in the coffin. Now they hand out temporary and permanent bans not because their rules were actually violated but to protect their stock price and corporate reputation.
I am a Leftist and agree with the Leftists take but the Liberal in this meme has a more effective message. The majority of people have issues neurologically with truly caring about things they can’t at least imagine affecting them and there are a huge number of people working their asses off 40+ hours a week while struggling to get by. Not that we should abandon the elderly or disabled but we should be diverse in our messaging and who it targets.
