I’m a systems librarian in an academic library. I moved over the Lemmy after Rexxit 2023. I’ve had an account on sdf.org since 2009 (under a different username), and so I chose this instance out of a sense of nostalgia. I do all sorts of fiber arts (knitting, cross stitch, sewing) and love dogs.
Payments available for withholding include the federal taxes collected from the paychecks of state employees, as well as grant payments owed back to the federal government.
As I read it: as a state employee my federal taxes would still come out of my paycheck, but the state would hold to the money. Sounds like it could get complicated for me come tax season.
I’d happily give 25 times that to help domestic abuse survivors and their pets. To put that princely sum in context: 50¢ could buy you a full-sized candy bar 30 years ago.

My personal threat assessment for the protest I’m going to is “bring snacks, electrolyte freeze pops, water, ice packs, ear plugs, first aid kit, and saline solution”.
The only thing listed that wouldn’t take to, say, a summer pride event is the saline solution.

When someone says “I think the only bad thing about the Holocaust was that Germany did it” they need to do a fair amount of work to clarify that they do not mean that literally. Otherwise, I will be inclined to take them at their word.
If that were the case I’d hope they would try to be clearer.
