This is the first I’ve heard of the neoliberals being driven out of the DNC and frankly I find it a bit hard to believe. Outside of the win in NY I haven’t heard of any other significant shakeups in the party, and frankly the number of politicians in the DNC you’d need to oust to dislodge the neoliberals makes me think I’d have heard something.
Because the Republican/Libertarian dogma is that government does not work and is inherently wasteful, that only private corporations are efficient and good. Their goal is to destroy the entire government and replace it all with private contractors doing the same thing for more money and half as well. Ignoring the fact that they are themselves government workers, and that there are many necessary services that explicitly should not be run to maximize profits, they’re also fundamentally wrong that the government is somehow uniquely wasteful and inefficient. It’s just one of many false beliefs they have, the biggest and most damaging of which being the idea of trickle down economics.
You mean the guy known to creep on underage girls, who insisted on barging into their changing rooms, who made inappropriate comments about his own daughter when she was under age, and who frequently hung out with the guy that was a known paedophile and was known to prostitute underage girls to his rich friends, doesn’t want to talk about what he was doing with him all that time?

It will almost certainly pull some votes from Trump but whether that’s enough to make a difference or not will depend on if the DNC can get out of the way long enough to find a candidate anybody actually wants to vote for or if they’ll run another “we’ll change nothing and you’ll like it” candidate.
In a normal military this would be a pretty big deal, but Russia has long used the strategy of “keep throwing bodies at them until you win”. That’s also likely the reason their navy and air force are a joke as that strategy doesn’t work so well when you have a finite number of craft to send those bodies on. There’s a reason that Ukraine’s tiny well trained military has been able to use guerrilla tactics to wipe the floor with Russia’s military.
So unfortunately this is likely to make little if any difference, Putin will just find a new piece of meat to stuff into that uniform and then kick him towards the front line. What does make a huge difference though is every time they manage to destroy a piece of Russian hardware (be that a boat, plane, tank, or artillery) as Russia has a very hard time replacing those unlike their practically unlimited supply of cannon fodder.
The DNC needs to just finish the slow metamorphosis they’ve been going through for decades and finally merge with the RNC so we can get a new actual opposition party. It’s looking likely that that new party would end up being the democratic socialist party.

If only that would do something. It’s good he’s at least going through the motions, but I’m doubtful this will do anything more than generate headlines. Then again maybe a miracle will occur and Trump will have pissed off enough Republicans to make this actually stick.
We’ve seen the way Israel does ceasefires and it looks an awful lot like Russian ceasefires. This is just Israel taking a timeout to restock ammunition and hoping for a good opportunity for a sneak attack. Also it’s Trump saying it so who knows what if anything was actually agreed on. The only thing you can reliably count on Trump for is lies and grifting.
The only way I could see Israel going for an actual ceasefire is if Iran has nukes or one of their backers makes a believable threat to drop a nuke on their behalf. Or maybe Israel did the math on what it would mean if their psycho buddy Trump actually dropped that nuke he’s been salivating about on Iran and don’t want to deal with nuclear fallout and the very real possibility that someone would nuke them as a freebie while chucking nukes at the US.

The platform is a tool, and like most tools it can be used for both good and evil. I agree it’s making the problem significantly worse, but hyper focusing on just the platforms while ignoring the people using them doesn’t seem like the right approach either. I don’t know how to preserve the positive aspects of platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Youtube while also preventing them from being abused to spread hate and lies. I feel like there must be something that can be done to at least improve the situation a little. The various “community notes” features I don’t think were a terrible first step, although they’re also far from a solution. It’s a complicated problem with a lot of potential pitfalls, but one I think is going to be critical to solve and soon because the problem isn’t going away, as long as we have an internet it’s here to stay.
TL;DR: of that whole thing boils down to “the problem is too hard to solve and all the solutions are worse than the problem so don’t even try”. I don’t agree with the premise because if we accept it, then democracy is doomed.
We can not have a functioning society when we can’t even get a majority of the citizens to agree on basic aspects of reality and half the people are convinced the other half are lizard people that are putting mind control drugs in the water supply. A functioning democracy requires an informed and educated populace, and unchecked propaganda, disinformation, and conspiracy theories lead to the opposite of that, particularly when you have a wealthy group that profits from spreading it.
You’re both right which is the real conundrum. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that conspiracy theories and propaganda in our hyperconnected social media fueled internet are incredibly dangerous and rot the foundations of democracy. Democracy can not survive if these kinds of things are left unchecked. By the same token however any mechanism that immediately springs to mind to combat them is ripe for abuse and easily subverted by fascists and totalitarians. I honestly don’t know what the solution is, only that we desperately need one.

What’s happening here cheapens what’s happening here. I guarantee this guy will still vote Republican next election. Maybe not Trump specifically, but I guarantee he won’t be voting for a Democrat. This isn’t a news story, it’s the entirely predictable outcome. Republicans never care about something until it impacts them directly, but even when it does they don’t change their behavior.
