Sounds like a billionaires ploy to create an oil state that they can take and run as a kingdom.
The tourism ads write themselves:
“Alberta: it’s Louisiana with Healthcare”
“Alberta: it’s Venezuela without good food”
“Alberta: it’s Saudi Arabia with a shittier climate”
I wouldn’t count on the good healthcare to survive if Alberta leaves Canada
Alberta is actively destroying their healthcare now. It likely won’t survive Smith’s term.
I’m not Canadian but I lived there for years. As a result, I still follow Canadian politics closely.
Calgary has the worst traffic fatalities rate in the country:

Alberta has the worst measles epidemic in North America:
Premier Danielle Smith publically criticized vaccines:

If Alberta officials are too incompetent to manage traffic safety, too incompetent to prevent measles, what makes people think they have the skills to manage an independent country…? Mark my words. An independent Alberta would be a failed state on day 1.
She would beg Trump to come annex Alberta on day 1.
How about amend it so that if it fails, she ends up in prison?
