We NEED the public services provided by the government. What we need to figure out is how to remove the authoritarians and build a stronger democracy.

If the government shuts down I will be happy. If it doesn’t, I won’t be mad.

I won’t be happy. Last government shutdown saw our national parks get destroyed by visitors due to the lack of enforcement as well as certain businesses taking advantage of the brief shutdown to illegally harvest resources from the parks.

Honestly there are two paths to removing a fascist dictator: General strike that marches onto the Capitol and hold those accountable, or 2A as the Founding Fathers explicitly detailed and intended for The People to use.

Before some numbnut goes “hurr wot can people do” forgot the recent uprising in the Phillipines, Brazil prosecuting their dictator, and going further back how America gained independence from the British ala guerrilla warfare.

Bear in mind, the revolution was not all guerrilla warfare, the continental army was the main force fighting the British.

And that’s not even to mention the French involvement.

General strike is never going to happen, the USA is huge and spread out.

Asking for a civil war is not absurd, I certainly see the merits in it, but it will also cause many unnecessary deaths and great suffering while also emboldening Russia and China to do whatever they like unchecked.

The GOP proposed budget bill is attrocious and honestly cannot even be stopped if every DNC votes in unison because it can still pass via reconciliation, which makes outrage against the inevitable pretty impotent, but setting the government employees up for unpaid work or not working at all until the 2026 is also not ideal.

“The government” can be your hyperlocal full-participation commune council. OPs post is specifically about the US federal government, not governance in general. Eventually that machine is going to break itself irreparably (Some may argue it already has), and seeds need to be ready to grow from it’s corpse so that as few people as possible fall down through the gap in support.

USPS, FWS, the IRS, USDA, FDA, NASA, NWS, CDC, the fucking EPA

Hell, even the FBI is in charge of policing Police Departments, otherwise many murders by local cops would have gone completely under the radar.

Yes they’re referring to the federal government, possibly a misspelling of “the feds” usually used in reference to FBI or other federal law enforcement.

If you aren’t even here (who tf calls it the colonies?) or know enough to talk about it, then you really need to shut up about it. “The Fed” here refers to the Federal Reserve. If that shuts down we are very fucked. But it appears you are trying to talk about the federal government. In which case there are an assload of departments which protect the people and our interests. If the federal government gets shut down, they do as well. Not just the shitty parts suffer.

Then you aren’t very observant or well read. Which is making your position fall flat. You can’t just ignore reality and pretend there aren’t good departments or good things that exist. That’s ignoring a great deal to make a shakey and rather flippant assertion.

If you want to just say uninformed bullshit you aren’t any better than the MAGAts that ignore facts and give equally ignorant opinions. Know what you are talking about, or be open to being wrong at least and then learning from it by going and reading or hell, even watching a half decent educational video.

I have no strong opinion on the U.S. federal government. But if the federal reserve calls it quits, you can kiss the global reserve currency goodbye.

the federal reserve? that’s what “the fed” usually means. I’m thinking you mean the federal government? either way, I hope you have a backup plan.
