if Burnie succeeded in anything, it’s getting the party to at least pretend to be leftist on paper occasionally. accepting the top candidate before the primary is a mistake. make them earn your vote.

Snowclone@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•DEMS PULL UPSET ON EPSTEIN FILES: Democrats dropped an 11th-hour motion at an unrelated hearing after noticing that most GOP members on the panel had publicly demanded the files be released.0·2 months agoBiden likely would have never released it because his donors are on the list, also the general public on the US, if you haven’t caught on yet are like 30% complete idiots. A good example of this is that many people in comments on Instagram or other social media have said ‘‘why would anyone even willingly fly on a plane called ‘the Lolita express’?’’ Because they can’t figure out that the press started calling Epstine’s plane that long after the accusations and convictions were over with. They’re even more confused that the pilot of the plant never saw ANY sexual behavior or implied sexual relationship of any minors on the plane or even adults on the plane. How couldn’t he tell?! Because Epstine was a blackmail con man, not a ‘‘hay everybody here’s all my dirty secrets! Look at this! It’s incriminating!’’ Man. Blackmail necessitates obfuscation, and likewise gaining access to wealthy targets ment he ALSO needs to appear harmless and well connected to other wealthy people, who only saw normal behavior. So this list, the flight logs, even the island visitors, will all be at the very least 50% innocent people, if not way higher numbers. You only need a few successful targets to get by with blackmail and if the targets all have lots of money and know eachother the last thing you want is for them to be aware your blackmailing them all at once. And if he never did blackmail and just ran a pedophile ring, the level of secrecy would still be crazy high and he’d still want to look innocent to the majority of people he knew that’s how all child abusers and rapists in general tend to behave.

You can argue it’s state capitalism, but personally I don’t see it. I’d say we’re deep into full on monopolies and oligarchy. If you have enough money and you buy out it otherwise lock out competing business and create vertical integration, the government will subsidize your business, especially your payroll, and if you go bankrupt they will reward you with no taxes for life, or bail out money that you can 90% give yourself personally as a yearly bonus. None of that is capitalism, it doesn’t fit that model. We’re also letting corporations call themselves individuals with rights, which is absurd, and it’s the argument for letting business openly bribe and sponsor politicians, on top of making it also legal to directly pay politicians to vote specific ways, as long as you pay them after the vote happens and not before. None of this fits the capitalist model. Monopolies are supposed to be illegal in capitalist models because it’s known to break the model. Regulations are supposed to stop individual businesses from owning their own supply chain, distribution system, raw materials, manufacturing, all in one company. Because, again, it was always known this would break the model. We aren’t capitalist. We’re in an oligarchy. Might make rights, money is in charge, and there are only rules for the not owner class.
We all got our limitations, man.
Snowclone@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Iran issues fatwa against Donald Trump: "Enemy of God"English0·3 months agoJesus said very specifically to feed, clothe, and house people in need, and that even letting the poor live on your property and eat your food isn’t enough to keep you out of hell if you don’t actually keep them safe and fed enough. He REALLY insisted, he talked about prisoners rights repeatedly. I’ve never heard of a single church trying to improve prisoners lives. Not one. Someone did the math and discovered that if every building used for religious worship sponsored two people. Housed two homeless people, there would be no homelessness. That’s it. Two people. Now assuming just Christian churches would make those numbers harder, let’s go ahead and double that number even though that’s impossible because the majority of places of worship are Christian in the US by a lot more than 50%, but let’s just pretend it’s 4 people a Christian church. That’s VERY LITTLE EFFORT that would end all homelessness in America.
Try and build a halfway house anywhere in the US and what happens? Thousands of people suddenly are motivated to show up to town hall meetings and sign petitions!

So there’s not much to unwrap there except that the “current value” is never matching our current year, as these things have to be a few years old to have reliable stats to calculate. to inform my previous statement though, the entry level jobs at GM in 1955 required no diploma and were $2/hr with benefits. in 2025 dollars that’s $23.99. The average entry level pay in the US right now is $16/hr and typically without benefits. A lot of people who grew up on the $2/hr income think we are getting it FAR TOO GOOD, when that’s simply not the case.
Snowclone@lemmy.worldtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Damn Fox, you didn't have to turn me on more.0·3 months agowhat year, and how much exactly per hr. I would love to point out how inflation works to you. the average worker in the 50s at an entry level, no high school diploma required job, was making A LOT MORE than you’d guess after factoring in inflation.
Snowclone@lemmy.worldtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Damn Fox, you didn't have to turn me on more.0·3 months agoMy former religion used to do this a lot. to the point people I didn’t know who heard I was one of them, would ask about these kinds of services. The church doesn’t do any of it anymore. they stopped all their charity efforts of this kind as it doesn’t line up with American Republican values, and those are clearly more important than shit Jesus said. reading any manuals, teaching plans, and so forth that the church puts out makes this abundantly clear. Used to be Mormon. Finally gave up with the anti-lbgtq bullshit and the church hording tithes. literally against the dogma and doctrines of the church. 100%. They still teach in Sunday school for kids that tithes stay local and help people in need Mormon or not. it’s a full on lie at this point. Other than child abuse lawsuits I’m not sure the church spends money on anything.

Snowclone@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Friends say Minnesota shooting suspect was deeply religious and conservative0·3 months agoIt’s amazing how many people use their religion to justify murder. I remember this guy killed his wife because he wanted to be married to someone else, and he was so Catholic he just couldn’t get a divorce. So he killed her. Now what’s strange is, if you ask most Catholics they’ll tell you murder is ALSO a horrible sin. Like. Go to hell sin. 100% going to hell. Where as divorce is… frowned upon? But it’s not as bad as murder.
There is a really funny video of a proud boy showing up at someone’s house to threaten them, but he’s very timid and the guy just rips into him and he nopes off. But in reality, a coward with a gun an your address can be a real problem, not that I personally doubt your confidence, I’m also not scared of people knowing where I live, it takes two hours from the middle of nowhere to get to where I live, and it’s one of the most hostile ecological areas on the planet, so. Come at me bro!
