It’s a combination of:

• Distrust of science, experts, and industry
• Belief that managing disease in any way is somehow interfering with God’s will
• Belief that keeping “weak” individuals (human or non-human) alive is a waste of resources or steers evolution down a dead end

Why is it that the pro-democracy parties are always so hesitant to do the messy work of actual democracy?

While the anti-democracy parties — the ones who say majority rule is a futile idea — seem to have no problem persuading people and making steady change even in the face of chaos, unrest, and internal conflict?

I believe two contradictory things here:

• It’s impossible for anyone to still be confused about who Trump is at this point
• It’s possible for Joe Rogan to be confused about anything and everything

The US was the overwhelming choice (24% of respondents) for the country that represents the greatest threat to peace in the world today. This was followed by Pakistan (8%), China (6%), North Korea, Israel and Iran (5%). Respondents in Russia (54%), China (49%) and Bosnia (49%) were the most fearful of the US as a threat.

Is it possible to cheer an action but not the actor?

Like, if someone swims out to save a drowning kid but it turns out they were only there to dump a dead body, can I still be glad they saved the kid?

Okay, granted:

Someone foolishly released a chaotic force into the world which is doing irreversible damage and shows no intention of stopping.

Pardons apply to criminal contempt but not civil contempt. What could happen is that the executive branch could refuse to carry out the contempt order. If that happens, it’s basically game over.
