Part of the nature of AI and why it sucks for comics is that there’s no continuity, the castle loses its flags and gains more towers, the bottles behind move and one of them is just straight floating. Signing this is an insult to people who put any effort in to creative expression.

Wow this might be the first time I disagree with the anti-AI folks here. The big two arguments I see about using AI is 1) It was generated from stolen art and 2) It takes money out of the hands of real artists.

For 1, Pandora’s box is open. It’s done. It doesn’t make it right, and I’m all for backing lawsuits against companies who did it, but I’m not going to pile onto a person who just had a joke idea and wanted to get it out there. “But he shouldn’t use it at all” - yeah, except that gets into 2.

For 2, This was a silly thing that they wanted to make quick. Let’s be very real, there was no way they were going to commission an artist to do this for them. In this way I think AI has democratized art a bit more in this sense. No, it’s not winning any awards, but I’ll admit I’ve had a lot of ideas to make a joke or meme, and I’ve felt left out because all I want to do is post it quick but I don’t have the ability to draw. I have a lot of other skills, but I can’t draw. So yeah, I don’t get why this is such a big deal here, no creators lost out on a commission because of this.

Those who went to Art School, I fully believe in your craft and I value it, and I gladly pay for art around my house. This isn’t that though, it’s a silly comic strip I got a quick 3 second chuckle out of and then could have moved on if it wasn’t for the endless comments below that made me want to post this comment. To me, this is a perfectly valid use of AI. Person had a silly joke idea, made a visual for silly joke, put it online.

I don’t want to pile on too hard, because hopefully you’ve internalized some of the other criticisms in the comments, but this is actually a great example of why “AI” art makes so many people so angry.

On its face, this is a nice-ish comic strip with a joke that might get a smirk or chuckle in response. The moment you look at the image critically, that all falls apart. And don’t you want people to look at your art critically? Don’t you want people to zoom in and enjoy every part of what you created? Thing is, this isn’t your art. You didn’t create it. You wrote some sentences, and then an algorithm (without permission) used the real, painstakingly created artwork of artists from all over the world and throughout history, to spit out some pixels that look like this. You didn’t pick up a pencil or stylus, you didn’t ink the lines and labor over the facial expression or color pallets. You didn’t build on a lifetime of artistic experience to create something new in a style that you’ve been developing for yourself. And then you signed it to make it seem like you had actually done all that. That may seem okay to you, but it’s deeply insulting to lots of people.

I’m a shitty visual artist. I couldn’t draw to save my life. And that’s totally okay, not everyone is Van Gogh. I find other outlets for my artistic impulses.

I might have chuckled if you had drawn this, even if it looked awful it would still get the idea across.

    This is just sad.

Learn how to do art. It’s literally that simple. There are hundreds of tutorials of all kinds.

They can practice until they can do the art - drawing is a skill like any other that can be improved. Even without practice some scribbles would probably work for this - a joke like this wouldn’t even take much to get across. Or they could commission or request someone else to do it. “Can’t do the art” is an imaginary barrier

Okay. 35yrs doing art(drawing, painting) so when will I achieve this skill? I could draw it and still get told it is garbage so nothing changes.

I doubt you will be told it’s garbage. There are some people in this platform who make comic strips with MS paint and a mouse and I’ve never seen anyone berating their style

The rise of AI seems to have made people nicer to any art that was clearly created by a human, no matter how crude.

It seems like you’ve given up before you started. You could draw it yourself and get told it’s garbage, but at least you could do so with some pride. Maybe you’d even get some constructive feedback. Where’s the pride in this slop?

I don’t think you’re going to get any traction with AI generated comics here - you’re probably better off posting this type of content in AI focused communities.

In not sure if you’ll find AI Comics specifically, that’s probably too narrow of a scope, but I bet there are some more generalized AI content focused places that would welcome it.

You refuse to listen and take criticism, so…

Good. You want to already be good and loved without effort. Go put that into finding your AI community then. We like art and comics here.

            Garbage excuse.

Make a style that is yours then if you aren’t getting better at copying others.

Well you said you were doing 35 years of practice and I assume that’s actually what you were doing. So that would be copying who you are learning from. But seems that may have been giving you to much credit.

The AI copies everyone, poorly. This doesn’t feel like 35 years of practice drawing but 35 years of wishing you were better without the effort. You should be able to specify your influences.

I’d give you the nail issue, but there is most certainly 4 fingers on each hand.

The fourth … appendage on the left hand is being used like a thumb, and doesn’t have any indication of knuckle even though it’d be the most bent finger if it was one. I’d say we can see four fingers on the right hand, while the left is in an indeterminate slop state where it’s only partially a comic/Disney three-finger hand, with one extra slop appendage that’s not clearly either thumb or finger.

I don’t know why AI put a bag over persons head. It is tricky trying to get it to do what you want. I guess more you use it better you get as in everything.
