To be fair Trump did the same thing. Only that for some reason he thought Musk was the smartest man alive and fixing things means something entirely different in Trumps world.

If you’re going to put a word in quotes, you should at least learn to spell that word. It’s “Octagon”, not “Octogon”.

UFC is better at spelling than OP. Idiocracy indeed.

These people are shallow and depravedly hedonistic, sure, but not “simple”. They’re not mentally handicapped, they have chosen, every day of their lives, to be cunts. To be evil. To care only about themselves because it’s the core and only commandment of Western civ: no matter the consequences, get the bag/fuck you, I got mine. American society as a whole might be shockingly stupid and resemble the folks in Idiocracy, but the leaders aren’t, they’re just very very very evil people, and that’s a matter of personal choice.

I remember 30+ years ago telling my parents “Everyone at school is a moron. I’m surrounded by morons all day long!!!”

They tried telling me it was all in my head. I now realize that my parents are ALSO morons.

I mean, not the kind that voted for trump…but the simple kind. The kind that orders something from amazon, package claims delivered but it’s not, then suddenly the neighbor has the same thing they bought and is missing. Multiple times. Yet they refuse to believe that their neighbor is an asshole.

So I waited until they went on vacation, put an amazon box on their porch, which was actually a glitter stink bomb.

Neighbor stole it, got pissed off, and tried going to my parents door to complain to them about it. Except they weren’t even in the country.

NOW they believe me when I tell them the obvious, that their neighbor is a theif, and that they need porch cameras.

But again, my parents are morons. So instead of a self hosted option, they went with ring cam.

Yes. I know. I already know all about the privacy issues. They don’t believe me.

It’s so frustrating as an mma fan of 20+ years that this is happening. Absolutely radioactive and poisonous administration. Imagine how shitty you have to be to make this sport (which I love) look worse.

They’re WWEing it. It’s how they think, how they vote, everything about it is gross.

I’m not sure what you mean by that. Ya mean MMA, the UFC or US politics is WWEing? I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing in regards to the UFC but definitely bad for the US. Same with this event as a whole. I think it’s gonna put tens of millions of eyes on the show that night. Which is good for the UFC/the sport but incredibly embarrassing/bad for the US.

Well, the same company that owns UFC also owns WWE.

So it’s only to be expected that they’re run the same way.

Eh not really how it works. That merger is very recent. In the rest of the history of the company they were heavily at odds with the WWE. At the end ot the day they both sell “matches” though. The major difference being the WWE sells athletic theater and the UFC sells competitive fights. So the marketing being similar but the product is different. Both companies have been ruthless in talent/competition/territory acquisition for their entire lifespan.

The entire point of Idiocracy wasn’t that “society might become Idiocracy” it’s that society is always Idiocracy

The thing the movie did was take a “common man” and throw him into a civilization where he is that intelligent compared to everyone else. Like Gullivers Travels, those lands existed before and after Gulliver went there, him going there was just to compare those fictional islands to a reference point the read can identify with.

But right now, for as long as human civilization has existed, and for however long we keep it going…

For some people it’s always been Idiocracy. And there’s literally nothing that can ever be done about that, except making the most intelligent members of a society less intelligent or not members of society

It’s one of the most misunderstood movies and people just fucking love bringing it up.

I thought the moral of the story is that society goes to shit when people choose to “get out of the way” instead of “lead or follow.”

Joe specifically reflects in the film: “I think maybe the world got like this because of people like me. I never did anything with my life."

In order to gain the benefits of society, it may be required to participate in it. Not doing that is how we got what we have today. And participating can be as simple as voting, spending money toward local businesses where you can, or participating in a local club to show support. But you don’t get the utopian society by everyone shelling away from everyone else. People are social creatures whether we want to be or not.

            I’d rather die of exposure.

Plus I’ve been voting and buying local for years decades and things just get worse.

I may, however, not be human since being social is literally hell

Society can afford some asocial people but not many/a majority. Any society with a growing number of people who can’t handle socializing and being part of/contributing to the group, one way or another, will probably go extinct. I’m not saying you should care (I assume you don’t), I’m just making an observation. 🤷

The comparison is these idiots watched it (or more likely clips of it) and being dumber than the characters in the movie they thought it was a great idea. And here we are.

You can examine and detail and write a library of essays about what the movie really means, but I’m here to tell you it doesn’t matter because they can’t and won’t do any of those things. They are what it is at face value.

You really don’t notice how that’s essentially what the people in Idiocracy said to Not Sure?

Like, the entire movie is people saying the same thing to him that you just said to me…

So I guess I shouldn’t be surprised it didn’t work, I’m just shocked at how obvious it is but still not getting thru to you.

You are the people who don’t understand it. You are the people making memes about it without understanding it…

        You’re the people you’re complaining about…
