Freed hostages have said Hamas was covering them with mattresses and anything they could think of to protect them from bombings from their own people

I remember it being in the news but a bit different: there were people obviously not armed, waving white flags, approaching slowly with hands up. Still shot by IDF. This made it into international news because and only because they turned out to be hostages who either were released or escaped, we’ll never know. For me this was a good demonstration how they deal with civilians and how little people care about Palestinian lives.
