To summarize, the Department of Injustice was going to disenfranchise 98,000 voters in North Carolina on a technicality. Democrats negotiated with the department to let them disenfranchise those voters later, during the election instead of before it.

    What an impressive win. /s

You can’t negotiate to keep your rights without conceding something. Perhaps negotiation is not the correct tool to use.

Something new and untested being done regarding voter registration and eligibility DURING an election? What a great entry point for FUD. I’m sure foreign and domestic malicious actors won’t use this confusion as an excuse to disregard the outcome of an unfavorable election. That would be against the rules.

The justice department, which under Donald Trump has moved away from its historical focus on expanding voting rights, sued the North Carolina state board of elections earlier this year, demanding that the state deny a ballot to voters who had not provided a driver’s license number or the last four digits of their social security number when they registered, as required under the Help America Vote Act.

The North Carolina court of appeals ordered the board to seek the information from voters before allowing them to vote in future elections, and the Republican-majority board was going to comply before the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and voting rights groups in the state intervened.

So the fascist laws were delayed so they could vote instead of legally being applied immediately.

Those goddamned Democrats pulled some strings to let them amend their registrations instead of the voters finding out on election day they were getting shafted? Those bastards! No wonder you hate them so much.
