That was a different time. Patriotism was at a peak and most bought into the fabricated weapons of mass destruction evidence. At least long enough for it to be too late when we all realized it was all a lie.

And many voted for him. As a veteran myself, I can’t imagine both holding the stance of swearing to defend the constitution and then voting for the guy who tried to overthrow it once before.

People want to feel like they got a good deal. Making them do a little bit of work or seeing that marked down sign gives them that feeling.
