As a US citizen, Canada should not become part of the US.
It’s been 77 years since the US admitted a new state and almost 100 since we’ve raised the number of representatives. D.C. residents make up a large portion of the federal workforce and even they don’t have representation in Congress. Quite frankly, there’s no political entity in the US with experience bringing in a new state and all the logistics and legal work that it requires.
There is no path for Canadian annexation where the Canadians will be treated fairly.

Trump offered Canada two options to be covered under Trump’s so-called “Golden Dome” program. The first is to become a part of the US. The second is a $61 billion price tag. For the government of a foreign nation the size of Canada, that’s basically pocket change.
Canada is not considering becoming part of the US. But they are considering his $61 billion offer.
And that consideration is all Trump needs. Again, they didn’t give a forceful and unequivocal “no”, which just gives Trump wiggle room to believe that there’s still a there there. Give Trump that opportunity and he will exploit it to push his own agenda. And that’s exactly what he’s doing.

I’m almost afraid to ask what Golden Dome is? If it’s SDI 2.0, we need to stay away in droves. I think there’s some merit in sinking a bit of R&D into dealing with emerging threats like drones, and maybe upgrading the ancient DEW line radars? But if this is another Star Wars missile shield over the entire continent proposal, that was a costly boondoggle in the 80s and I see no reason to believe it wouldn’t be one again today.
