It’s worse than that, there are Republicans that know he’s morally reprehensible, might destroy the country, know he is incompetent, and still worship him.

The people who need to read this cannot read.

I wish that was a joke. There is a direct correlation with the rise of fascism and the decline of American reading scores. Currently nearly a quarter of our adult population is functionally illiterate. Meaning they can identify words, they can send texts, they can reply to messages or read headlines, but are incapable of anything more advanced than that.

We somehow think that there’s a sharp line between “cannot read at all” and “can sit down with a paperback and be whisked away to another world” when actually it’s a spectrum, like everything else.

Really what this means is that a sizeable set of our population, because they suck at reading, also suck at forming language in their heads, and because of this cannot manage and consider complicated, abstract ideas or reframe thoughts into words that can be analyzed. When you live like this, you tend to just go along with whatever other people are doing and you have intense emotional reactions to everything you see.

This is precisely why it’s every government’s top priority to cripple the education system. Or if it’s already crippled - either cripple it further or just keep it as is, depending on the circumstances.

Personally I live in the EU, so it’s not nearly as bad for me as it is for Americans. However, even in Europe most politicians and their parties get elected simply because people don’t know better and follow whatever their preferred TV station says.

A lot of Europeans also have difficulties separating personal feelings from politics. You criticize one politician and suddenly everyone is mad, because that means you must be a devoted supporter of their opponent. Sometimes it feels like everyone is brainwashed, because they can only do ‘white’ or ‘black’, as if there were no other shades in between.

Having a favorite politician is weird, like having a favorite landlord. You should care about the policies and efficacy of your politician, and not really give a fuck beyond that, unless they are a rapist, serial drunk driver, or something like that.

    Ahem…. Bernie.

The 2025 Bernie people are definitely a cult, talk about beating a dead horse. It also shows the hypocrisy of all the “we want all the old white wealthy dudes out of politics!” And then demanding Bernie. Also Bernie is great at pointing out the bullshit but never has a plan to replace it. Having said that I love and agree with his views for the most part, but I don’t lip service, when I mean I want old white men out I mean all, not just the ones I dislike.

Bernie is one of the few politicians with a plan.

The fan club can be annoying in peddling conspiracies, but if there’s one thing that I’ve learned over the past decade, it’s that no political alignment absolves people from fucking stupidity.

      LOL

      “Bernie doesn’t have a plan”

Bernie got 200,000+ Americans a living wage simply by getting off his ass and giving speeches at Disney and Amazon, bringing media coverage to their shitty labor practices. This was while Democrats sat on their hands and pretended that they’re powerless.

It’s unreasonable to expect people not to be bitter when Democrats rigged primaries against him and served us up two Donald Trump presidencies.

People aren’t Bernie cultists. It’s just a novelty when there’s a federal legislator who says things and then walks the walk.

My tone doesn’t prove your point.

My tone demonstrates annoyance at your ill-informed opinion, which I’ve shown by presenting counterexamples.

And a broader annoyance at ill-informed people being confidently incorrect.

How can my opinion be ill informed or not? It’s an opinion, not a universal truth. The cult of Bernie is strong here. If he ends up on the Epstein list y’all are gonna trip over yourselves to defend him

… by basing your opinion on weakly supported assertions or outright misinfo. I didn’t realize this was complex.

Also Bernie is great at pointing out the bullshit but never has a plan to replace it.

Is this really the case, or is it that his plans don’t get a lot of analysis and detailed criticism because we all know the rest of the government will never pass it? And I don’t mean this as a Bernie-defending retort — I don’t follow him closely but I thought he’s proposed plenty of legislation and laid out changes in his speeches. His history in defending people that are not white dudes is pretty legit too, of course.

And given that he’s old, rich, and has his heart in the right place, I bet he would instantly jump at the chance to be exiled from washington along with all the other elderly people.

That’s US politics as a whole. Ever since the first Trump presidency a blue MAGA has been forming in the democrat camp. They’ve taken over pretty much all representation online by now. Bernie is also a victim of this by a similar left-lib MAGA forming around him.

Except Bernie gets a ton of criticism from his left for his unwillingness to act on gaza.

The joke among Bernie supporters has always been “Bernie is the compromise”.

I wouldn’t say those are Bernie supporters. They’re left of Bernie as you’ve noted.

Yet many left-libs are willing to throw theory out of the window just to have a chance to slightly nudge the democrats to the left. His supporters are willing to leave class consciousness and struggle behind for some crumps of concessions. Those left of Bernie who are not his supporters, don’t.

I think Bernie inspired a movement that is quoted because he has many good ideas that can help people. Other “cults” don’t help anyone other than themselves and wreck shop.

Finding a problem is part of being productive. Just because people find the problem doesn’t mean they can have a solid solution. But our government is built on adjusting. It has not been adjusted. The corporations have duped the American people into believing that their guidance is in their best interest in every way possible.

The exit strategy is restructure or complete annihilation and then rebuild. History has proven this many times. See Egypt, Rome, France, England ect.

Not really, no. Cults are a very specific means of control. Almost every organization ever has some minor aspect of the BITE model, but that does not make them cults. Doing so waters down the term and is insulting to people trying to get out or have gotten out.

Pham Minh Chinh is banning ICE scooters in the capital in 1 year, and cars 2 years after that.

What could I possibly criticize him for? Not banning vinfast cars blocking traffic with fewer than 3 people?

If you’re an American and you can’t name… let’s say… 10 presidents, then it’s probably a bad sign if you even have a favorite politician.
