this isn’t a fight against foreigners, it’s a fight against exposing americans to intelligent people
Maybe it’s not safe. They might just react like sodium and water, who could tell?
see? this is what i mean! there are whole oceans made of sodium and water! if you knew some basic chemistry, you’d at least know that… jeez!
(this is a joke. i feel compelled to state very clearly that this is a joke)
Little column A, little column B
Wrong on both accounts. It’s just political theater to make racists and xeniphobes happy.

It can be all 3 simultaneously. It virtue signals to the phobes, it hurts foreigners and keeps Americans from being exposed to other cultures.
unless on a scholarship, foreign students pay the highest rate of tuition, which is a win for the US, since either you get the brightest or you get the $$$
It’s a way to further weaken higher education.
The US doesn’t want the brightest, apparently. They’re even doing their best to push their own students out of the country
Many of them also stick around after they graduate and get productive jobs in the US. You’re effectively skimming intelligent, hard working, educated workers from other countries. There’s literally no downside if you’re not a racist fuckwit.
Educated, intelligent people don’t vote Republican.
That takes brains, understanding of simple economics, and not being a racist douchbag to get though.
Way beyond Trump & Goons abilities.
Abilities are a Chinese hoax anyway. Do I have any abilities? Do you? Told you so. Hoax.
CHI-na!
From what I remember seeing, international education in the US is considered an export since the money is coming in typical from their parents bank account. If you consider all fees and cost of living for a student they add a lot to the local economy where they go to school.
Hmm, what happened to “They’re sending us their criminals!”??
“They’re sending us their criminals!"
- President Bukele
If it’s all J visas this could also impact (though given it’s already May maybe not too much ) the seasonal student exchange programmes eg summer work in theme parks/summer camps.
News and world on Lemmy.world are both US news.
TBH as an American I’d love more non US posts.
My hope is that Lemmy gets exponentially more non-US users as our country becomes a Big Tech hellscape, so that I can lurk on here as the “outsider”
