  • One could argue it did work, just a little too well. In 1995 forget trans rights, gay marriage was just starting to become a question and about half of white people were still against interracial marriage. As the one atheist kid in that era, I was certainly an outlier and society still regarded it as a default that everyone was religious. Basically only black people were worried about whether police were beating people up too much and for the vast majority the only question was why we weren’t being harsher on criminals. Society’s views on things have changed very rapidly as a result of being able to access information very easily.

I think what we’re seeing today is not a result of the internet, but a reaction to the result of the internet. Things have changed too fast for some and there’s basically a cultural luddite movement.

  • I’ll jump in here and point out that the militarism decried in the song is one of the less-applicable criticisms of Trump. If anything the criticism is that he’s too willing to take Putin’s side, not that he’d lead us to nuclear war. At least not intentionally.

If you want a more Trump-appropriate 80s punk song to select lyrics from I might suggest “Kill the poor” by the Dead Kennedys (referring to the apocryphal notion of using neutron bombs to eliminate the poors without harming property values). Although honestly if you wanna get some proper hot takes on maga you’ll do best dispensing with the 80s entirely and going with NOFX.

  • You guys need a hero that doesn’t suck. I mean he didn’t even hit a real oligarch. Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos don’t give a fuck what happens to Brian Thompson. All the oligarchs were so scared of being branded as oligarchs that they responded by all getting together and having a public bukkake session with Trump as he eviscerates what little public healthcare system there is. The Christ meme is accurate - because worshipping him doesn’t do shit.

“Legality” in this situation is completely irrelevant. The only law that would limit Kamala is the laws of politics. If she opposed intervention in Gaza, this would be the political equivalent of a frontal assault against a battleship. She’d be accused of helping Hamas, a bipartisan bill would be passed undoing whatever she does against Israel, and she’d be endlessly attacked by all sides in the media. If she opposed Israel annexing the West Bank, only the most extremist zionists would be against her on it for the reasons I stated.
